Subject: Elephants!
Subject: Elephants!
The energy at this show was out of control!
It was our hardest ticket to score that JazzFest but it all paid off. The band is in great form presumably happy to be playing a late show rather than one of the more time restricted early shows of the Fest. Lenny Kravitz plays rhythm almost the entire show - no grandstanding on this stage.
The "Elephants" from this show is outstanding! At 18:00 min long it is stretched out and the beat drives through the whole time. Karl D's solo features a 2 1/2 min "Unwind Your Mind" tease (I think from the Ubiquity 'Cookin' compilations) over the afrobeat rhyths of Bolivar and Rodriguez.
The sound quality is a real nice audience but a little distant. Tip's Uptown seems to be a consistently tough spot for sound.
